Avid4 Adventure at Montessori School of Denver
Posted on October 13, 2011
Montessori School of Denver Kindergarten through Fifth grade students will have an amazing opportunity this year to learn about environmental stewardship while trying a number of outdoor activities designed especially for kids. AVID4 Adventure is an outdoor education, on-campus immersion program. The mission of the AVID4 Adventure program is to introduce students to non-competitive active outdoor lifestyles using experiences that provide personal development (physical, social, and emotional,) environmental understanding and stewardship, memorable adventures, and teambuilding. Bringing Avid4 Adventure to our campus is a great example of MSD’s commitment to providing experiential learning and diverse learning experiences. Our goal for bringing in this program is not just to let the children spend a day rock climbing, paddling or riding a mountain bike, but to give our students the chance to push themselves and to overcome any fears or self doubt. This AVID4 experience is about reaching your personal best. Students will enjoy a portable rock climbing wall, a mountain bike skills course, a paddle tank, and a Leave No Trace outdoor classroom. Additionally, there will be plenty of new curriculum material at each of the stations. All activities are age appropriate and groups are created by skill level to accommodate “first-timers” to enthusiasts.
This year Avid4 Adventure is brought to MSD through a generous gift from the Parent Association in support of the Tracy Collins Schwartz Endowment Fund. The Tracy Collins Schwartz Endowment (TCSE) Fund was established in memory of Tracy Collins Schwartz. Tracy was the President of the Montessori School of Denver Parent Association for the 2007-08 school year, who passed away unexpectedly. The mother of three MSD students, Tracy worked tirelessly on behalf of the school. She loved life, embracing each day to the fullest. The purpose and use of the Endowment Fund is to remember Tracy each year by creating an extraordinary experience for the students at MSD. We are delighted this year to bring this adventure in Tracy’s name to our school.
