NAIS & AMS Conferences
Posted on March 15, 2010
During the last week in February, a number of folks from MSD headed to San Francisco for the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Annual Conference, “Adapt, Survive, Thrive: Unleashing the Superpowers Winthin.” The Conference, always a time to stretch our brains and garner inspiration, was a combination of outstanding keynote speakers, as well as small, hands-on sessions designed to present, and have participants chew on, the best educational practices of the day.
Stephanie Flanigan, Head of School, and Monique Davis, Chair of the Board of Trustees, presented in one of the sessions entitled “Beyond Good Governance: Creating a 21st Century Board of Trustees” and their presentation was commended by the participants for being engaging and thought-provoking! MSD has always been at the forefront as a forward-thinking educational institution, adept at incorporating the best ideas that integrate with Montessori philosophy. Sitting among independent schools from all over this country and abroad we were vigorously reminded of the good work that we do each day at MSD. We returned home inspired and confident in the course we have set for ourselves as MSD tackles what lies ahead.
Next up, MSD Faculty will attend the American Montessori Society (AMS) Conference “Montessori in the 21st Century” in Boston at the end of March. The Conference is designed for Montessori educators to take an in-depth look at the relationship between Montessori education and the 21st century skills, values, and attributes required by our students, so that the students may become competent, responsible, adaptive citizens who are lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and creative problem solvers.
