OUR STUDENTS ARE WELL-ROUNDED AND MULTI-TALENTED.
In addition to the core academic curriculum, MSD offers classes in Spanish, and after school classes in Japanese. Students in the Primary Program have Spanish once a week, while Kindergarten through Middle School students have two Spanish classes per week of increasing length. Students at the Elementary level and above are welcome to sign up to study Japanese after school.
In addition to the core curriculum, MSD offers a variety of Special classes in the arts at the Kindergarten through Middle School levels including art, music, and drama classes to enrich classroom studies and student development. The Arts are integrated with MSD’s yearly continent study as well as the yearly theme study. At the Middle School level students participate in Arts electives such as soft sculpture, printmaking, acting and directing, digital imagery, rock climbing, musical theater, technical theater, and working with clay.
Students, Kindergarten through Middle School, participate in physical education. At MSD there is freedom of movement in the classroom, meaning students can choose where they work and move throughout the classroom as needed, as well as structured and open recess time at all levels. A curriculum-based physical education class is also a part of the student’s schedule two days a week in elementary and one day a week in Kindergarten and Middle School.
After School Sports
Middle School students take part in Open Gym, after school, where the emphasis is on honing certain skills required for team sports (such as basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and ultimate frisbee), intramural competition, and general fitness. We are in the process of developing a more formal after school sports program that may include MSD team sports for basketball, futsol (soccer) and ultimate frisbee. In addition, we are interested in developing a program for Colorado-based sports such as rock climbing and fly-fishing.
